Sermon Text for Sunday: Daniel 6

Critically Think

  • Last week’s sermon was over Daniel 3. Read Daniel 3 and then Daniel 6. What similarities are there between these two passages? What are some differences?
  • What set Daniel apart from the other officials in verse 3? What further description of this can you find in chapters 4 and 5?
  • What was Daniel’s reputation before men in verses 4 and 5?
  • What is the significance of “law” in this chapter?
  • What is the significance of “petition” in this chapter?
  • What was Daniel’s reputation before God in verse 22?
  • Why does Darius decree that people should fear God, according to verse 26?

Prayerfully Meditate

  • How does Daniel model faithfulness in government in this chapter? How does his disobedience to Darius’s injunction demonstrate what Peter and John would later say in Acts 5:29?
  • What does Daniel mean in verse 22 when he says that he committed no crime against the king?
  • Darius commends Daniel twice for constantly serves his God in verses 16 and 20. What, throughout this chapter, are some of the fruits of constant service and obedience to God, and how do we see those fruits in believers’ lives today?
  • What is the relationship between obedience (verse 22) and trust (verse 23)?
  • What is your reaction to verse 24? How is this verse both a comfort and a warning?
  • God’s eternal life, reign, and salvation is a source of encouragement and comfort for His people. Why should it also be a source of fear and trembling?
  • How does this chapter tie into our worship of God?

Intentionally Act

  • Could verses 4-5 be said of you? What areas of faithfulness can you seek to grow in this week, whether at your job, in your home, or in your personal devotion to God?
  • Whether in freedom or under the threat of death, Daniel consistently obeyed God (verse 10). Take time to consider and pray for both yourself and for the persecuted church to remain faithful in obedience and worship.
  • What has this passage taught you about God, yourself, and the world? What is one truth from this chapter that you can remind yourself of and encourage others with this week?
  • Click the links below to find the lyrics and recordings of the songs planned for our gathering this Sunday; practice the songs, study the lyrics and sing together.
  • Pray for those leading our corporate gathering this week and for the Holy Spirit’s work as the Word of God is further explained and applied: Dawson Bryant: music; Mark Krystyniak: elder prayer & scripture reading; Dalton Vansell: teaching.
