Critically Think
- Read Daniel 3.
- Who was King Nebuchadnezzar? List out some key details from this chapter and elsewhere in scripture. Consider reading this resource for help.
- What did Nebuchadnezzar have built? What was the intended purpose of this structure?
- Who was supposed to respond to this statue? How were they to respond?
- What were the consequences for those who did not follow these commands?
- Who were those who disobeyed these commands?
- What questions does Nebuchadnezzar ask Shadrach, Meshack, and Abednego?
- What was the basis for Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego’s confidence?
- Did they believe God would save them? Look carefully at verse 18.
Prayerfully Meditate
- Why might verse 22 be included in the story? What about verse 27? What makes these details important?
- Who was the fourth man in the furnace? Support your answer.
- Are verses 28-30 evidence of Nebuchadnezzar’s conversion to Christianity? Why not? Consider Daniel 4:25.
- How do these verses speak to the exclusive worship of God? Support your answer.

- Does your faith in God eb and flow based on His actions? For example, does it rise when things go well and fade when things are hard? Explain.
- Do you believe God is worthy of worship only when he does what you desire him to do? Explain.
- In what ways are you tempted to not give God your exclusive worship?
- What sacrifices might you face for the exclusive worship of God?
- How does this passage compel and clarify the gospel for evangelism?
