Carefully Think

  • Read Proverbs 31:10-31.
  • What is the purpose of this passage (v 10)?
  • After reading through the passage, what is this woman's greatest focus? Why?
  • List as many areas of responsibility and actions this woman has and does.
  • How would you assess this woman's joy? Is she satisfied, fulfilled, and enjoying her life?
  • What motivates this woman to live in this manner (v 30).

Prayerfully Meditate

  • Why would Scripture paint such a high view, virtually impossible model for a woman to follow and a man to pursue?
  • How should women use this passage in the most biblically helpful ways? How about men; how should they read and use this passage?
  • What expectations about womanhood need to change in your thinking based on this passage? Which expectations do you have that need to be removed? What expectations need to be established based on this passage?
  • This passage (and Mother's Day) may be a very difficult day for you personally. Why? How could this passage be of use for you to reset your thinking, your feelings, your prayers for yourself and others on mother's day.
  • How could the chuch be proactive in supporting the qualities found in this passage?
  • How could you assist (short term or long term) another person to use this passage in a helpful and encouraging manner?

Intentionally Act

  • Pray for women in our church and in your life in some specific ways associated with what you read in this passage?
  • Who could you spend time with this week encouraging, talking through, and praying with about any issues brought up in this passage?
  • How could you assist young men with the emphasis found in this passage? How could you encourage a couple with anything found in this passage?
  • Pray that non-Christians who attend this Sunday will be convicted of their need for Christ based on their exposure to our worship of Christ and an understanding of his word.
  • Pray for Christians to be encouraged to apply God's word in ways that will most honor Christ.
  • Pray for those leading the service this Sunday to edify the church: Dawson Bryant, music; Rob Stouffer, Elders' Prayer and Scripture Reading; Bret Capranica, teaching.
  • Meditate on the lyrics of the songs we will sing on Sunday. Consider how they can and will elevate your worship of Christ this week.
