Carefully Think

  • Read Matthew 14:13-21. Sum up the main idea of this passage in one sentence.
  • How does this passage relate to the events that precede it (14:1-12)? How does this help to understand one of the reasons Jesus goes to a desolate place?
  • From what you read in this passage, what words would you use to describe the crowd's interest in Jesus?
  • What was Jesus' response upon seeing the crowds?
  • What was the concern of the disciples as the day drew to a close? How did Jesus respond to the disciples? How would you describe the disciples' response to Jesus' call to feed the crowds?
  • How do the crowds respond to Jesus?
  • How many people would you estimate were present at this miracle?

Prayerfully Meditate

  • From reading through this passage, list what you can think of that Jesus is teaching the crowds about himself. What is he teaching the disciples about himself?
  • What lessons about faith and confidence in Christ can you list in this passage?
  • What about the nature and character of Christ can you list from this passage?
  • What about your trust and belief in Jesus looks like the disciples? The crowds?

Intentionally Act

  • What sin in your own heart comes to mind when you think through the lessons of this passage? What confidence in Christ do you find after reading this passage? How should this passage impact you in the details of your life this week?
  • Pray for non-Christians who will be present this Sunday to come to be convicted of their need for Christ and turn in faith to him.
  • Pray for Christians to be encouraged, convicted, equipped, and helped this Sunday through our gathering.
  • Pray that those who are leading the service this Sunday will edify the congregation: Dawson Bryant, music; Mark Krystyniak, Elders' Prayer and Scripture; Bret Capranica, teaching.
  • Listen to the music we will sing this Sunday and meditate on the lyrics in preparing to sing with the church.
