I have been a Christian 32 years now, coming to faith at the age of 40. In that time, I’ve been in only three churches, all of which have been solid Bible-teaching bodies of believers. As a new believer, I realized early on the importance of meeting one on one or with a small group of guys in my local church. As an extrovert socially, my go-to for making this happen was to organize a breakfast with a few guys, or accept invitations from several guys who were getting together. This usually was informal and somewhat sporadic. I had not been in a group that was intentionally focused on Bible study and discipleship until coming to Summit Woods.

My wife and I have now been at Summit Woods for over 11 years. When we first began attending, the leadership at SWBC had just begun organizing men’s studies and accountability groups under the name Ironmen. I have been a part of an Ironmen group now for all those 11 years. I count it a humbling and grace filled opportunity to have been a part of Ironmen. As would be expected, members and attenders of my group as well as the others have changed, but the focus on the study of God’s word and accountability has not. In recent years, the Friday night gatherings 3 times per year as well as the yearly Ironmen Summit in Emporia, Kansas have reinforced the need for all of us men to grow in our walk with the Lord.

I encourage any men in our fellowship to become involved in the ironmen ministry at SWBC. It is my prayer that it will grow, will impact the lives of numerous guys, and that God will be glorified.
