When my husband and I first started attending SWBC, I didn’t know anyone well and was intimidated by the amount of people at the church. I wasn’t sure how I was going to get to know anyone on a deeper level without it taking a long time. I was quickly connected to a Titus 2 Group that met close to my apartment super early on Saturday mornings. That was the time that worked best for me, and although I wasn’t able to attend that Titus 2 Group for very long, it served as a springboard to get to know other women in the Body. I have since had the privilege of being a part of a few other Titus 2 Groups (due to season of life changes) and it has been such an encouragement to my soul. I have gotten to know many women in the Body from these groups. I have been held accountable, I have been lovingly confronted, encouraged, and edified through these meetings. I have been prayed for and had the joy of praying for others. These groups have also provided a sounding board to discern truth from error in the resources we’ve read. My Titus 2 Group has also sought to serve me in times of need and has provided me with the opportunity to serve other members of the Body as I became aware of needs. I wouldn’t want to live the Christian life without the wisdom and love from my Titus 2 Group.
Summit Woods has a series of women’s groups called “Titus 2 Groups” that meet throughout the month to read through a resource, pray together, and grow in relationship with one another. These groups seek to carry out the command in Titus 2:3-5, which says, “Likewise, teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good. Then they can urge the younger women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God.”
Most of the Titus 2 Groups meet twice a month, but there are a few that meet weekly. Typically, there are two leaders of the group that host the meetings and lead the discussion. These leaders are approved by the Summit Woods Women’s Leadership Team and the elders. The leaders typically choose a resource from a list of trusted resources approved by the elders. This list is composed of resources written by human, and therefore, fallible authors. So although we find these resources informative and helpful, as a church, we do not whole-heartedly agree with each word written by these authors. It is strongly encouraged that each person use discernment while reading anything written by a human author and to evaluate all that they read with the Bible.
The Summit Woods Women’s Leadership Team has sought to provide a wide variety of locations and times for the different Titus 2 Groups so that the most amount of women are able to participate as possible. We are also actively seeking to create more groups in the future as that need continues to grow with the growth of our church.
Please pray for biblical wisdom for our group leaders as they disciple the members of their group. Please also pray for spiritual fruit in the lives of those that attend these Titus 2 Groups. Lastly, please pray that the Lord would provide faithful women to lead more groups in the future and that the groups would foster deeper relationships among the women in the Body.
You can find a list of our Titus 2 Groups on the church website under “Adults” and then “Summit Wood Women.” You can also find our list of recommended resources organized by topic there, too. If you have any further questions about Titus 2 Groups, please reach out to Kelly Capranica or Hailey Vansell. You can also send an email to sww@swbcls.org.
