The nursery ministry of Summit Woods Baptist Church exists to provide a Christ-exalting, joy-filled, and safe space for our youngest children to hear about God and the gospel while their parents are being equipped and worshipping. We are quick to recognize that weary parents of little ones can pay closer attention and participate in Equipping Classes and the worship gathering more effectively if their little ones are being cared for by someone else. And we are happy and humbled to be entrusted with the care of their little ones on a Sunday morning from 9-12.
There are three nursery rooms available each Sunday morning. Our “Bed Babies” room is for newborns through 18 months. Our “Little Tots” room is for 18 months through 2.5 years. And our “Big Tots” is for 2.5-3.5 years old. Children who turn 3 before August 1 participate in the pre-k Sunday School class and Pre-k Truth 4 Kids class.
Each of these rooms focus on age-appropriate care and teaching. Our bed babies volunteers are encouraged to spend time praying for the babies and their parents while they serve in the nursery. Our little and big tots rooms use simple bible stories and books to teach the kids about God, His Word, and the gospel.
The nursery employs an army of around 90 SWBC members who are trained in our child protection policy and background checked to ensure that our children’s safety and care is a top priority. These volunteers serve in an 8-week rotation, serving 6 times a year. This ensures that they can participate in Equipping Classes and the worship gathering, as well as keeping them fresh, ready, and excited to serve.
Check in volunteers are an essential group of volunteers who help new families navigate the check in system, give directions, fill in and help nursery workers and other children’s ministry workers, go get parents when needed, and several other essential tasks to keep the morning running smoothly.
Pray that our nursery ministry will be a joy-filled place of Christ-exalting service to the body of Christ. That our nursery volunteers will serve “by the strength which God supplies; so that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belongs the glory and might forever and ever. Amen.” (1 Pet 4:11). Pray that these volunteers will see the crucial and essential nature of their service as members of body exercising their gifts for the good of the body (1 Cor 12:4-26). Pray that they will care for the children with excellence, upholding their safety and our child protection policy.
Pray for the little ones being cared for, that God would protect them, and that God would save them. Pray for the parents of those children, that they would not provoke their children, but raise them in the discipline and instruction of the Lord (Eph 6:4), and that they would benefit from the nursery ministry by being equipped (Eph 4:12) and growing in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ (2 Pet 3:18) through the ministry of SWBC to the glory of God.
