It is the mission of Summit Woods Baptist Church to magnify God by making disciples of Jesus Christ (Matt 28:18-20). While we believe the primary responsibility for the disciple making of children belongs to their parents (Eph 6:4), in light of the great commission, we also believe the local church has a significant role in coming alongside parents in this disciple making process. To that end, we offer a number of children’s ministries where the local church can teach children God’s Word in order to plant and water the seeds of the gospel, and pray that God would cause the growth (1 Cor 3:7). One of the primary teaching settings for children is during our children’s Sunday School hour.

Children's Sunday School meets from 9 to 10am, during the Adult Equipping Class hour on Sunday morning. This is an exciting time for children to do crafts, maybe sing some songs, but most importantly to be taught the Bible. Over the course of 3 years, the children are exposed to the main storyline of the Bible working consecutively from Genesis to Revelation. In a child’s time in children’s Sunday school, they will be taught through the Bible twice.

In order to achieve this goal, we utilize a biblically sound curriculum called Generations of Grace that’s put together by Grace Community Church. You can find out more about that curriculum here. The curriculum has a teacher’s guide, craft book, coloring pages, and much more. One of the unique features of this curriculum is that it also has a family devotional. Families can utilize the family devotional and spend the week diving further into the passage that was taught on Sunday morning. The devotional has a section that explains the passage and insightful questions for the family to discuss both to further clarify understanding of the passage, as well as questions to think through application of the passage together.

We have Sunday School classes for all children Pre-k through 6th grade. Our teachers love God, his Word, and his church and the opportunity to share God's Word with children. They are trained in how to study and teach God’s Word, lead the class, and also in our child protection policy for the safety of the children. Stacy Honigman, Sierra Bortel, and Kara Hurley teach our pre-k class. Rhett and Taylor Bouvia, Husky and Meghan Weibling, and Katelyn Sundin teach our K-1st grade class. Stephanie Gardner, Crystal Mickelson, and Becky Vansickle teach our 2nd-3rd grade class. And Bennett Stouffer, Glenn Holmes, Brad Babcock, and Tim Millican teach our 4th-6th grade class. It is such a blessing that we have so many well-equipped teachers to faithfully teach our children.

Please pray for these teachers to faithfully study, understand, practice, and teach God’s Word to these kids. Pray that they would love the Lord supremely and the children well. Pray that as the children are taught God’s Word, they would have eyes to see, ears to hear, hearts to believe, wills to submit, and actions that obey. Pray for the parents of the children: that they would faithfully live out the truth of God’s Word, teach it at home, and not provoke their children to anger but raise their children in the fear and instruction of the Lord (Eph 6:4).
