Critically Think

What does God say is “not good” in verse 18 of Genesis 2 and what specific solution does God state that He will provide in the same verse?
In Genesis 2:18, how does God describe the kind of helper that He will make for the man?
The process that God uses to create “woman” is described in Genesis 2:21-22; what was that process and how is it different than how God created “every beast of the field and every bird of the sky"?
In Genesis 2:23, how does Adam respond when the woman is presented to him from God?
According to verse 8 of 1 Corinthians 11, what order of origin is described between man and woman?
In 1 Corinthians 11:9, what are the two purposes stated concerning the creation of man and woman?
What statements are made about the relationship between man and woman “in the Lord” found in 1 Corinthians 11:11-12?
In Galatians 3:28, what three pairs of contrasting people groups are listed and what universal statement is made after the three groupings?

Prayerfully Meditate

After reading Genesis 2:18-25, what does this passage reveal about the intentional design and complementary nature of male and female relationships?
How should we interpret the concept of headship in 1 Corinthians 11:3-16 without diminishing the value or worth of either gender?
Based on all three passages, how do male and female distinctions reflect aspects of God’s character, relational nature, and order?
What is at stake theologically and spiritually if these distinctions are ignored, redefined, or diminished?
How can the church uphold biblical truth while demonstrating grace, compassion, and clarity in a culture with differing views on gender?

Intentionally Act

In what ways do you personally affirm, or resist, God’s design for gender as seen in creation (Genesis 2)?
How are your attitudes, behaviors, or assumptions shaped more by culture than by Scripture when it comes to gender roles regarding men and women?
How can we better reflect both honor and humility in our relationships with the opposite sex, especially in light of headship and interdependence (1 Corinthians 11)?
How does the way you live out your identity as male or female serve as a witness to God’s design in a confused culture?
