Prayer based on Psalm 111
We gather together this morning to offer Praise to you, Lord. I pray we are ready and prepared to give thanks to you with all of our hearts, withholding no gratitude nor begrudging anything you have brought to pass. We are particularly mindful and grateful to you Lord, for being the chief shepherd of this church. You have ordained this body to include each member. It is neither happenstance nor random that we are here. We praise you for your kind order to assemble us together as you have for your glory.
Father, we consider your great works and are humbled and grateful. From the splendid and majestic work of your creation to the mundane yet faithful provisions of our daily needs. You are the creator of all things, the sustainer of life, and the sufficient provider. You are worthy of all praise as your work gives testimony to your perfect wisdom, power, and goodness.
Father, we know you to be gracious and compassionate. Thank you for your mercy. Thank you for remembering us, knowing us, and caring for us. Your faithfulness is faultless, it is steadfast, it is unwavering, and it is undeserved. You are a promise maker and you are a promise keeper. You fulfill your word to all generations, you are unchangeable and you always do good. Thank you Father for your great faithfulness.
Remind us Lord that the works of your hands are truth and justice. Remind us that all of your precepts are sure and are upheld forever as they are performed in truth and uprightness. Your word is the foundation of our lives and our hope. We can stand with confidence because of the surety of your word. Help us to trust in your revealed word and help us to obey it. Make our hearts eager to submit to the truth before us. Father, we confess that our flesh wants to disregard truth, rationalize it, or misapply it. Help us to see when we are sinning in this way and be quick to seek your forgiveness.
Father we know you provide redemption through your son Jesus Christ. In his perfect humanity, Christ became the final sacrifice, sufficient to meet your rightful justice and cover our sins. His life, death, and resurrection give us hope. Help us live in that hope every day despite the trials we face, the disappointment we confront, and the pain we endure. Holy and awesome is your name.
I pray our lives might reflect your greatness and mercy. We know the fear Yahweh is the beginning of wisdom. I pray our lives will be saturated with reverence for your name and we will proclaim with great joy and exaltation, Great is the Lord – He is worthy of our highest praise and devotion.
