Elder's Prayer

My prayer this morning is based on Psalm 119:9-12.  Listen to the Psalmist’s prayer…

“How can a young man keep his way pure? By keeping it according to Your word. With all my heart I have sought You; do not let me stray from Your commandments. Your word I have treasured in my heart, that I may not sin against You.  Blessed are You, O Yahweh; teach me Your statutes”

Our Lord and our God, we thank You this morning that You have sustained us through the week and have brought us here at this time. In Your kindness, You have again given us an opportunity to hear and learn from Your word.

Lord, we do pray that You would, through your Spirit, prompt us and give us the self-discipline throughout the week to spend time reading, studying and praying through the word You have provided for us.

For, as the Psalmist says, it is by keeping Your word that we live pure lives that are honoring to You.  Please give us the strength, commitment and diligence to seek You with our whole heart.

We pray that You would forgive us for the times we are indifferent to Your word and by Your providential care, keep us from disregarding and ignoring Your word. Do not let us stray from it as it is through Your word that You provide security and hope.

As we read Your word, please nurture in us and grow in us a desire for more of Your word, help us to see Your word as more desirable than gold because in it there is treasure much more valuable than pure gold.

Through filling our hearts and minds with Your word, we pray that sin would be kept at bay and that we would rejoice in the joy of our salvation which You have provided through Your precious Son, Jesus Christ.

Thank You Lord for Your gracious provision of Your word for us. We ask that You would teach us through it this morning.

In Jesus’ name I pray…
