Psalm 18:1-3. A prayer of David, he spoke the words of this song to Yahweh in the day that Yahweh delivered him from his enemies and from the hand of Saul.
“He said, “I love You, O Yahweh, my strength.”
Yahweh is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer,
My God, my rock, in whom I take refuge;
My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold,
I call upon Yahweh, who is worthy to be praised,
And I am saved from my enemies”
Our Lord and our God, like David said in this song, We love You and You are our strength as well. We love you because You first loved us. You loved us though we could offer You nothing of value, we could offer You nothing in return for Your love. We do not deserve Your love or the strength You give to us, but You love, care and strengthen us anyway.
You are the One we can run to in our time of need, You are our protection and our deliverer… we thank You for the comfort and encouragement we find in knowing that. Forgive us lord, when we come to You only when we need protection and comfort, please never let us forget to come to You at all times, not just when we are desperate and in need.
Remind us Lord, that You are with us at all times. That we can hide under the shadow of Your wings. And that we should not fear the future, because in Your love, You ordain all things and are sovereign over all.
We thank You also, that You are our shield and the horn of our salvation. In spite of our sins and frailties, You have made a way for us to be forgiven and to enjoy You throughout all eternity. You have torn the veil in two that separated us from You. Through faith in what Christ has done on the cross we can boldly approach the Throne of Grace.
We know that we can confess our sins to You and You will forgive us because of this gift of Your perfect Son. Because of this, we can stop fearing and striving and simply rest in You. The work has been completed and the victory has been won.
You, our Lord, are worthy to be praised…may You be glorified in our frail lives even in some small way…
In Jesus’ name I pray…
