Elder's Prayer

Lord, Your word tells us in the book of James… James 1:17, “every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of Lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow” …

We praise You this morning for the truth of Your word recorded in James. Every good thing we have and every perfect gift is from You

You have and continue to provide for us beyond measure, beyond what we could expect or ever deserve. In truth we absolutely do not deserve the kindness and provision You have shown us

You provide good things for us. Good things that sanctify us and help us to become more like Christ. These good things are not always easy and comfortable, they are sometimes difficult and most uncomfortable. But yet they are good because You use them to sanctify us and conform us to the image of Your Son, Jesus.

You also provide good things for us simply to enjoy. You allow us to enjoy the beauty and goodness of all the things You have created and provided for us; family and friends to encourage and love us, nature for us to see the awesome work of Your hands, food and drink to nourish and fill us… on and on… these are good things that point to the love, mercy, grace and kindness You have poured out on us.

Father, help us this morning to be ever mindful of the on-going, continual supply of good things that come from You. Help us to intentionally look at these good gifts and give You thanks for them.

This morning, help us to be especially mindful and thankful for the best gift of all that You have given us, the gift of salvation through the work of Your Son on our behalf. This gift that opens the door for those You have called to spend all of eternity with You.

In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen
