Elder's Prayer

Prayer in light of Psalm 36:7-12.

Our Father, your steadfast commitment to us in Christ is precious beyond comparison. How we value your lovingkindness, for indeed, you have loved us. You set your sovereign electing love upon your people before the foundation of the world. In love you sent your Son into the world, and in love he lived and died for us. In love you redeemed us, justified us, regenerated us, and in love you’re sanctifying us and in love you’ll complete us.

And so we take refuge in you, we hide in you, we find comfort in you, we rest in you. You will keep us, you will protect us. You will hold us fast. You will satisfy us, for you give us to drink from the river of your delights. You give to us from the abundance of yourself. There is no satisfaction apart from you. Nothing can quench our never ending longing for satisfaction, but you. No food, no drink, no wealth, no possessions, no health, no prosperity, no relationship, no sin – nothing will satisfy our souls, but you. For you are the fountain of living waters. We were made to drink of you, we were made to find our all in you. For you tell us the truth. Your word is truth. Every other promise of satisfaction is a lie. But you tell us the truth. You promise blessing and satisfaction, joy and contentment, fullness of joy and pleasures forevermore. That’s true.

And so we pray that you will continue your lovingkindness. Continue to be who you are. Continue to keep every promise. Continue to be faithful. Continue to satisfy our souls. Continue to be righteous and do what is right according to your perfect character. Protect us from the prideful, from the wicked who would drive us away from you, who would entice us with the delicacies of the world who would seek to shame us and oppose us because of you. We would walk away from you to our destruction. Keep us, O lord. Protect us from the evil within our hearts and the evil of the world.

We pray in Jesus name, amen.
