Prayer of Thanksgiving:
Jeremiah 33:11
the voice of joy and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride, the voice of those who say,
“Give thanks to the Lord of hosts,
For the Lord is good,
For His lovingkindness is everlasting”;
and of those who bring a thank offering into the house of the Lord. For I will restore the fortunes of the land as they were at first,’ says the Lord.
Heavenly Father:
We look forward to that day when we will be able to exalt you for your goodness in the marvel of your physical presence, unburdened by sin in glorious resurrection bodies.
And yet, even in this moment, with dull eyes to see your glory, we have great reason, great opportunity, and—by your Spirit—great ability to pour out our thanksgiving to you for who you are and what you have done.
Father, you are good. Your goodness in your motivations, your purposes, and your works is the standard for any and all goodness that we can ever know. Whatever you do is right, beneficial to us, and majestic in your glory that it displays and the glory that you bring to yourself.
Your lovingkindness—your faithfulness and love to those with whom you have entered covenant—is without end, and we thank you that there is nothing that your people can do or neglect to do that would void your goodness and your covenant faithfulness.
We thank you for your goodness to us this past week. You have sustained us, provided for us, and protected us from our own purposes. You have uniformly and faithfully accepted the righteousness of Christ on our behalf in the midst of our selfishness and our sins, and you have brought us—and are bringing us—to repentance and into greater fellowship with you, even as your have brought us together in this place today.
You are the cause and giver of all our delights, and we thank you that you have so generously given us all good things to enjoy. We thank you that you have not abandoned us to our sorrows or in our difficulties. In our pain and despair, you are near us, manifesting your grace and extending your comfort, and calling us to greater glory of and deeper reliance on your goodness and lovingkindness.
We thank you for the great privilege to praise and thank you today, and for the hope of being able to express yet greater, more perfect thankfulness in the future. Amen
