Our Father,
We so often want our own way. For our own will to be done.
We wish that everything would go according to our plans, our thoughts, our desires.
We think we know best.
We think we know what would bring us the most joy.
We are easily upset, frustrated, angered, anxious, fearful when our will is not done.
We sinfully crave control. We rebelliously reach for the sovereignty that belongs only to you.
We would place ourselves upon your throne.
Forgive us. Show us mercy. Show us favor that we don’t deserve. Give us grace through Christ.
Help us to be like Christ when he prayed in the garden, “not my will, but yours be done.
”Cause us to rejoice in your rule, to stop resisting your sovereignty, to worship in wonder on our faces before your throne.
Help us to see that you are in control of all things. Help us to submit to your sovereignty and to see it as sweet.
Help us to trust that your sovereign will is always being done. And that your plans are good for us. In perfect wisdom and endless love, you ordain all that you do. Help us to trust you.
You know what is best for us. You know what would bring us the most joy.
In your presences there is fullness of joy and at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.
Father may all your good will be accomplished in us and through us. May
all your plans for your glory and our eternal good be accomplished.
Might your kingdom come and your will be done.
Not as we will, but as you will.
In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen
