Elder's Prayer

Prayer based on Psalm 107.

Our Father, we give thanks to you for you are good. We thank you because your lovingkindness endures forever.

We were lost, we were wayward, we were rebellious.

But in your goodness and lovingkindness, through the blood of your Son, you have redeemed us.

We were wandering along in life. Without hope, hungry and thirsty, needy, longing to be filled.

We cried out to you in our trouble, and you delivered us. You led us to the fountain of living waters.

We thank you for your lovingkindness, for your wondrous deeds to save, to deliver, to satisfy our longing, thirsty souls.

We were those who had rebelled against your Word. We were miserable in the bondage of sin and death.

And yet in your lovingkindness you heard our cries. You brought us out of bondage, out of darkness, you gave us life.

We thank you for your lovingkindness, for your wondrous deeds to save, to deliver, to break the bondage of sin and shame.

We were those who in our sinful ignorance, violated your laws. We received the just consequences for our actions and were near the gates of death.

But when we called out to you, you saved us. You sent your Word and healed us, you provided escape from that which would destroy us.

And so we thank you for your lovingkindness, for your wondrous deeds to save. We offer the sacrifices of thanksgiving, we joyfully sing your praise, we sing of your wonderful mercy.

We were those in the midst of the storm.

Chaos surrounded us. All our wisdom was swallowed up, we didn’t know what to do.

And yet we see that your hand brought the storm and so we cried out to you and brought us out.

We give thanks to you for your lovingkindness. You are so faithful. You are so merciful – not because we deserve it but for the sake of your name, for the sake of your promises.

We exalt you, we praise you, we thank you our Lord.

Help us to carefully consider and meditate upon your lovingkindnesses.

You are good and your lovingkindness endures forever. Amen.
