Prayer based on Psalm 146:1-5.
Ps 146:1-5 (LSB translation)
1 Praise Yah! Praise Yahweh, O my soul!
2 I will praise Yahweh throughout my life; I will sing praises to my God while I have my being.
3 Do not trust in nobles, In merely a son of man, in whom there is no salvation.
4 His spirit departs, he returns to the earth; In that very day his plans perish.
5 How blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob, Whose hope is in Yahweh his God,
Lord, we praise you this morning, may we also continue to praise You throughout all of the days You allow us to have. Even as our strength diminishes over time, may we praise You with our whole being. Help us to never forget Your kindness, patience and graciousness toward us.
Help us also, to never put our trust in men, men who by the worlds standards are admired and held in high esteem, however, there is no salvation through them, there is no real lasting hope to be found through them.
Men will fail us and men will pass away, their grand plans will pass away as well. But, in You, Lord, only in You, there is eternal life, there is salvation for those You call to Yourself. You are unchangeable, You are the same yesterday, today and tomorrow and the salvation You provide stands for eternity and will never diminish.
Your Word tells us that, as followers of Christ, You are the One who helps us, You are the One that provides for us, You are the One in who is our refuge and because You are our God, You are the One in whom our hope is found. As Your children, we have the guarantee of our glorious future with You in eternity because of this, we are blessed.
Let us now rest our hearts in the confidence that You are faithful, even when we are not, and that You love us, even in our weakness. Let us rest not in our performance and devotion but let us rest in the confidence that Jesus’ righteousness and obedience provided the means for us to be welcome in Your presence for all eternity.
In Jesus’ name we pray - Amen
