Elder's Prayer

We come to You our Father with praise on this resurrection morning, just was we do every Sunday to celebrate the resurrection of Christ. His victory over death and sin is our reason to gather each week. The truth we rehearse is the same each Lord’s Day but today, Resurrection Sunday is particularly meaningful, and we are especially grateful to You Father as we rehearse the truth of the gospel together in song, prayer, preaching and fellowship.

For those in this room who claim Christ as their savior, who repent of their sin and who have trust in Christ and Christ alone, Father we praise You. We praise You for we know the resurrection of Christ demonstrates that You were indeed satisfied with his perfect sacrifice on the cross. He was delivered to the cross for our sin. He was our substitute. He paid the price and debt for our sin we could not pay. Just as Abraham placed his faith in the promises of the Father, we place our faith in in Christ’s finished work on the cross. We place our faith in You Father, who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead. He was delivered over for our transgressions and You raising him from the dead indicates Your satisfaction that leads to our justification. We are now declared righteous through Christ. There is no greater news for a believer. We praise You for this good news that is the foundation of our hope.

Father remind us of what Your word teaches. Christ has broken the power of sin over us. His resurrection has completely dealt with our sin. We are no longer enslaved to sin. We must battle sin, but our relationship with sin has been severed. We are now in Christ. Jesus was raised to conquer sin and to slay death. He has given us everything we need for life and godliness in His death and resurrection. What a glorious truth we praise You for this Resurrection Sunday!

Father I pray too for those in this room who do not yet know You, for those who do not know of the hope that believers enjoy, who are still enslaved to their sin, who refuse to bend their knee to Christ, Father I pray for them. I pray God that You will do work in their hearts this morning that only You can do. I pray You will grant them repentance leading to a knowledge of the truth. I know they will hear the truth today. I pray Lord that You will open their heart and give them ears to hear. I pray You will remove the heart of stone and give them a heart of flesh. A new heart that will be led by the Spirit to love and obey Christ and his commandments for they are indeed good. And they too will join the believers in this room who see the glory of our weekly Lord’s Day celebrations as the pinnacle of our week. I pray this for Your glory and in the name of our risen Savior Christ. Amen.
