Elder's Prayer

Please find below the notes from the Elder's Prayer this past Sunday.

(Based on Psalm 145) We will praise you, our God, and will bless your name forever and ever. Great is the Lord and highly to be praised. Your greatness is unsearchable, your majesty is glorious, and on your works, we will meditate.

You are gracious and merciful, slow to anger and great in lovingkindness. You are good to all and your mercy is over all of your works. Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom and your dominion endures forever.

We pray that you would forgive us when we sin. Forgive our pride, our bitterness, our lust, our anger, our gossip, our worrying, our grumbling, our slander, our malice, our prayerlessness, our faithlessness.

We all are weak in our flesh, tempted to sin, and then carrying out that sin. Maybe we sin knowingly, presenting ourselves to unrighteousness. Or we sin in ignorance, not knowing that we’re sinning again or that your word speaks to that sin.

Help us to recognize and understand our sin – that what we do is sin and that you hate sin and how destructive the sin is to our own hearts and to those around us.

Help us to more fully recognize our need for, our dependence upon, Christ to save us from our sin. That Christ has paid fully for our sin. And that you are satisfied with what Christ has done for us regarding our sin.

You sustain all who fall and you raise up all who are bowed down. All who look to you will be satisfied because your hand is open toward them and you desire to forgive and sustain us.

You are righteous in all your ways, kind in all your deeds. You are near to those who call upon you, to those who place their faith in Christ.

You hear our cry and you save us. You keep all those who love you.

We will speak the praise of the Lord and will bless your holy name forever and ever.

Amen.
