Elder's Prayer

Please find below the notes from the Elder's Prayer this past Sunday.

As you know, our dear brother, Kevin Hocker passed away unexpectedly this week.

We were in Growth Group last week, after church, having lunch across from each other and talking about the Gospel…2 hours later, Kevin was in eternity.

That could be us today. If you have not trusted Christ as your Savior, today is the day.

Kevin was a godly example, to all of us, of a man that trusted Christ for his salvation and knew that he would never die and would spend eternity alive with Christ. That is the hope that all followers of Christ have.

I will be using John 11:25-26, the passage in Kevin’s funeral bulletin, as the basis for my prayer this morning.

(Read John 11:25-26) “Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in Me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?”

Dear Lord, thank You for giving us Your word, that it is truth that we can base our lives and our eternity upon.

That through Your word we learn of your unmerited mercy, kindness and grace that You have lavished upon us.

We are humbled and grateful that, according to Your word, You sent Your Son into our world, to live, die and rise again on behalf of those who You have called to Yourself, into a relationship of love and trust in the saving work of Christ.

Your word says that those who believe in You, those who trust in the atoning work of Christ, by which He has satisfied the debt we owed and made atonement for our sin, will never die.

It is through the Spirit’s work in our lives that You have given us the hope that when the days ordained for us are done, we will pass from this earth into your presence for eternity.

Thank you for the assurance we have that our dear brother, Kevin, who has gone before us and is in Your presence, at this very moment, is already enjoying that reality.

In the name of our Savior, we pray this.

Amen.
