Elder's Prayer

Please find below the notes from the Elder's Prayer this past Sunday.

Right now in our home, Sarah and the boys are memorizing the verses from the Psalm 19.  And when I pray in the evenings with them, we extol God’s greatness and His holiness, we acknowledge our sin, and we thank him for the Savior…

Psalm 19.

1 The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.
2 Day to day pours out speech, and night to night reveals knowledge.
3 There is no speech, nor are there words, whose voice is not heard.
4 Their voice goes out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. In them he has set a tent for the sun,
5 which comes out like a bridegroom leaving his chamber, and, like a strong man, runs its course with joy.
6 Its rising is from the end of the heavens, and its circuit to the end of them, and there is nothing hidden from its heat.
7 The law of the LORD is perfect, reviving the soul; the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple;
8 the precepts of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes;
9 the fear of the LORD is clean, enduring forever; the rules of the LORD are true, and righteous altogether.
10 More to be desired are they than gold, even much fine gold; sweeter also than honey and drippings of the honeycomb.
11 Moreover, by them is your servant warned; in keeping them there is great reward.
12 Who can discern his errors? Declare me innocent from hidden faults.
13 Keep back your servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me! Then I shall be blameless, and innocent of great transgression.
14 Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O LORD, my rock and my redeemer.

Lord, you are Holy, and every detail of your creation screams out your existence, your perfection, your sovereign justice.  You and your Word are our sole source of Truth and you reveal yourself in it as our Judge and as our Savior.

Your judgment is perfect, and because of our error and sin, we are subject to it.  Yet you revive us with your law.  You make us wise with the testimony of who you are.  You cause our hearts to rejoice with the order found in your rules, we are enlightened by your commandments.  And they are desirable!

Keep us from sin.  Give us hearts that desire you and are grateful for your control.  Give us hearts of love for you and obedience to you.  Give us knowledge of our sin, of our pride, and make us repentant from it.  Make us to turn from our sin that we might escape your judgment and not be left without your love and blessing for eternity and that we might have the privilege of joyfully glorifying you now and forever.

We thank you for the provision of yourself through your Son, Jesus.  For he is the only way to you, our only hope of being rejoined to you, our only means by which we may truly glorify and worship you.  We have no other hope.  Our trust is in you completely.

You are our eternal Lord, the immortal, invisible, only wise God.  And we give ou honor and glory forever and ever.  Amen.
