Elder's Prayer

Please find below the notes from the Elder's Prayer this past Sunday.

Father,

The songs we sing this morning proclaim your worthiness of being praised.  You alone are the matchless King, all glorious above, our Shield and Defender, girded with praise.  You are our fount of every blessing, calling for songs of loudest praise.  O, to your grace how great a debtor we are! What are we that you are mindful of us?

What are we that you care for us?  And extraordinarily so?  So much so that you were made sin for us.  You were made the appeasing sacrifice for our faithless and deliberate disobedience before an angry and a Holy God, so that we can humbly and with assurance claim your salvation.

Help us to daily depend on you!  We claim your salvation for our souls, yes, but help us to trust you moment by moment for even the mundane activities in life, for without faith it is impossible to be pleasing to you!  You are in sovereign control.  You orchestrate each bend in our reality that we might know you better, become more deeply dependent upon you, and that our character might be more perfectly conformed to yours.  You make no mistakes.  Even in sorrow, trial, and grief, you are there.  And your purpose - your intent - is aways your glory!

Help us to see and know the privilege of being objects chosen for the purpose of glorifying yourself.  Help us to recognize the humility that being instruments for your glory implies.  Give us joyful hearts of submission and service to you.

Amen
